Does anyone have equations for determining the power requirements for a steel slitting line. I am trying to determine the capacity of an existing line for higher speeds, thicker harder material, and a greater number of mults. An equation for power given material strength, thickness, no. of slits, line speed, line tension etc. would be great.
Thanks

I do not know of an equation, although it does not mean that one might not exist. However, I would think that if you know what you need at the present moment for your present product then determine the percentage of increase in thickness and then transfer this to a percentage increase in power. Taking into consideration that many things in nature are not linear then add a security factor to compensate for any possible errors (10-15%). Otherwise, I am certain that by you knowing your process and taking into account the forces involved in your shearing operation you can determine the increase in force and therefore determine the increase in power that you would need. I am sorry, that I cannot be of further assistance. I hope that my suggestion has been helpful in someway. Have a GREAT day.
