Staad 2006 New Steel Code?

Does the new staad 2006 release code check against the new 13th edition AISC code? All I can find on thier website is that it designs to ASD and LRFD which could be the 9th and 3rd editions and not the 13th, not sure?

Preferably it would allow a code check to all three for those of us that still work in 97UBC, and 2003 and 2006 IBC.

Read the Documentation with your program. Mine shows ASD-9th edition and LRFD-2nd and LRFD-3rd.

Thanks but I dont have the program yet, so no documentation. Anyway I emailed Staad tech support and they said the new version uses the 13 ed.

I haven't tried it yet but the command is:
CODE AISC UNIFIED

But before you just willy-nilly use this command to do code checking, you need to read and understand chapter C of the 2005 AISC code.

You now need to do a second order analysis. This is especially critical when applying chapter H, combined forces, of the code. Notice that the equations are just straight line interactions now! I personally think that this chapter is going to get the crap misused out of it.

Also, I would be very cautious of the first couple of releases of a new function in STAAD.

Thanks for the tip. I just installed 2006 and ran my model from the previous Staad release 2005 and everyting is good- just have to make sure you do P-delta analysis. Easy enough in staad.

Be careful with your P-Delta, as Chapter C in the new code requires not only a big P-Delta (Frame Stability) but also a small p-delta (member stability) analysis. While STAAD performs a standard frame stability P-Delta anlayis I am not sure it does the small p-delta.
