Here's a note I've sent to my VAR on the same subject. Any input here would be appreciated...

I have tried a few of times to install SE ST4 on a 32bit Windows XP Professional system (on a home license). I've secured and placed the SE License.dat file on the system. The error message I've gotten is shown in the attached document. I've tried to install 4x to date (over two days) without success. I've tried two different media packages, figuring this to be from a corruption in the expanded file referenced, that one of the two DVD's might have an uncorrupted file. No luck.

If there is something else I can try or a different course of action, please let me know. Here's the same thing referenced on the GTAC Support BBS: but without any resolution.

Then there is this thread on home licenses in particular, and the change in licensing methods for ST4:
I do have my SE-CID (a given, since I received the .dat file, but just wanted to be explicit).

My VAR finally responded after I called them (the guy who takes e-mails was out for training - so much for expedited service). It appears this really is a corrupt file on the DVD media (on each one). I've gotten the executable via FTP download and will install that.

BTW, I found SWx much easier to deal with than Seimens SE for home license. I fully understand the anti-piracy concerns, but the method for securing and executing a home install is a pain.

After 2 wks of trying to get this done, I'm about to give up. I've cleaned out registry entries, run MS utilities designed to purge the remains of old Windows Installer software installations, and suppressed all applications and most services when trying to install. Everything's failed.

The condition is most accurately described in this thread: (For anyone w/o access to the BBS, the error reads: Error 1300. A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file E:\Solid Edge\LightW~1.cab has an invalid digital signature. This may indicate that the cabinet is corrupt. Error 3 was returned by WinVerifyTrust.)

GTAC feels certain there is no issue with the install files (.cab). Copying of the contents of the installation DVD to the local HDD made the attempted installation faster, but didn't provide success. GTAC thinks it's a system resource issue on installation and is done with assistance on the matter (esp. since XP is not supported by GTAC for troubleshooting on ST4 and the future ST5 won't install on it).

Last communication with Customer Support at GTAC, they were going to have me use the /3GB switch. The machine has 2GB RAM, so does this help? I have read conflicting information about how this works. (I get the boot.ini mod., etc.; the question is how additional memory allocation happens when there is only 2GB of RAM?)

Does anyone know if this application will install while the OS is in Safe Mode? I doubt it will, since it has to make use of Windows Installer, and that doesn't run in Safe Mode, as far as I can tell.

Any info. is helpful at this point. The machine ran ST3 fine. I'm not quite prepared to upgrade my hardware, but I will if I can't get this to install.

Thanks.

WinXP Pro, 32bit, SP3, fully patched
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
E8400@3.00GHz (Wolfdale)
1.97GHz, 1.95GB of RAM
60GB free space on 160GB HDD
6GB paging file

After about 12 attempts since 27 Oct 2011, I have successfully installed ST4 on my home machine. To provide for installation, I uninstalled AVG12 and Zone Alarm 2012 firewall completely (not just turning them off for ST4 installation.)

ST4 installed without any issues from the DVD. I'm not sure which of these pieces software was at fault, but I would guess AVG12. (The fact that there is a special AVG software removal tool available, RE: speaks to issues with the invasiveness with the software.)

The \3GB was a non-issue.
