Is there a way to stop SolidWorks messing up with my AutoCAD when I install a new SP?

Possibly by renaming the AutoCAD registry hive/key while doing the SW update. Change back when completed.

dogarila,
That has been an issue for several years.
It's a PITA!
I usually have to uninstall both app's, reinstall SW then ACAD.

I talked to a friend at work and he said it happened to him once and others here also. His suggestion is to have AutoCAD shut down completely. Do not use AutoCAD 14. He does not know why this happens or how to fix it.

How's SW2009 SP 3.0 running for everyone? We're installing it tomorrow morning. I hope it's better than SW2008 SP 4.0?

Crashing a lot on large drawings, about 3-4 times per day. Running good. I save often.

I have not tried the edrawing problem. It takes a lot of effort to upgrade our standalone uses.

We've been testing SP3 for about a week now.
- There were drawings we couldn't open on SP1 but now we can.
- The Reload from Vault works now.
- My test users report fewer crashes than on SP1.
- Edrawings is working in the vault.

Thanks for the input. We're having some issues installing PDM on the server, but in the processing of correcting the problem. I was reading that SW wants you to run the task scheduler againist the SW legeacy files. Do I really need to do this? We never did it in the past. The way we update is to open an assembly as needed, and save as the new version.

Looks like you're moving from 2008 to 2009?
You're refering to updating older version files to newer?

There's nothing wrong with updating the files as they're checked out and checked back in. I believe when you check out the older files and then check back in, it will want to bump the rev.

The advantage with using the task scheduler is that it will update the files without having to deal with upreving the files.

You should be aware that the on-line PDMWorks help files, recommends that if you use the task scheduler to update files, do it one folder at a time versus trying to update the entire vault.

Cheers
