COLD MILL FEED DEVICE: DRIVEN PIVOTING PINCH ROLL <br>

The cold mill feed device was designed in Solid Edge. The squeeze roll part file was imported into ANSYS for FEA. The final design produced 54+ draft drawings from parts and assembly files designed in Solid Edge. Subsequently the draft files were imported into AutoCAD dwg and dxf formats. This was successfully imported into the customer’s drawing database that primarily uses Microstation.<br>
The inherent benefits of modeling in 3D allowed the designer to uncover several spurious interferences.<br>

Thanks for emailing over the powerpoint show of the solid edge 'case history'.<br>
I reviewed it last night and found it quite insightful. It is always very interesting to <br>
examine a well documented design to look at the various processes and alterations,<br>
especially when it stems from the best use of the technology available.<br>

Congrat's on a very impressive design also! <br>

It was a most ingenious idea to assemble the design file in a powerpoint show. It <br>
certainly provides a stong argument for managers grumbling about software costs, and<br>
the &quot;why do you need this? nobody else here is using this...blah blah blah&quot;, etc. <br>
Through this powerpoint show alone, anyone could see how a sophisitcated software <br>
suite can provide a faster throughput or turnkey operation to a given task.<br>

Presently I'm the only one here in head office engineering services division<br>
using Solid Edge. Everyone else is working in 2D in Microstation/J...which, although quick<br>
to launch, is like driving a Ford Tempo in the Indy 500...I had pleaded for Solid Edge for <br>
months. I work exclusively with Solid Edge now, as it can import .dgn files from Microstation, <br>
and now my crusade has expanded to attempting to get an FEA package in here. <br>

Are you cautious of the mass property values attained by Solid Edge from a model? I don't <br>
know if I'm being paranoid, but I always test a component of an assembly, first with the Solid<br>
Edge mass property information, then I do hand calculations to determine/verify center of gravity,<br>
volume and mass, etc., just to make sure we're singing from the same song book...<br>

It's late in the year, but I just saw you were offering to send your Power Point file to download to look at what you did. I would appreciate if your offer still stands to recieve your file. And from then after looking it over I think it could be helpful to me in my business. I am always looking for new ways to present my products to customers. Now that I have Solid Edge, I really want to use it to its max capacity.
