I would call you local distributer should be able to give you some contacts in your area.

Do you have the original source code of the S5 and S7 systems? How about the HMI code? If all codes are available, then any moderately good system house will be able to do the conversion.

If you do not have the source, then you'll have to describe the functions of your system quite elaborately. The system house will build the project from scratch. It will involve much trial-and-error also. You'll need a _really_ good integrator.

In any case, the local Allen Bradley office will help you find a good system house.

BTW, I am interested to know the reason why you want to migrate to AB from Siemens. S7 is still a very good (and popular) platform for automation. The S5 should be upgraded to S7, anyway.

HMI's are obsolete and no source code is available, the PLC code is available, however the wiring has been cobbled for many years so the prints are not reliable. I have been in touch with Rockwells migration assistance group, and I want to switch to AB because it is our company standard, I do not stock MRO items for Siemens and Rockwell as big a pain as it is, is simply easier to train support people to use, has better tech support (most often) and in my opinion, for our applications (Automotive) works better.

AVGTech,

Thanks much for the response. It was important to hear your reasons for leaving Siemens. I use Siemens platform for most projects.

I'm in Bangladesh. In our part of the world Siemens has excellent support.

Wishing you good luck in your venture. It looks like you are well prepared for it. Cheers.

'for our applications (Automotive) works better'

bizzare thing to say.

Rockwell, I admit rapes you on all the fee's, however, in a JIT manufacturing environment, the work flow is easier to understand. And easier to train users to troubleshoot. Because Rockwell is native to the US, and has a broader range of partners it is easeier for us to get replacement components and technical support while keeping our spare part inventory lower. We do have several assets that have Siemens control platforms and end up waiting for replacement components to ship from the EU.

OK, so your saying for your local support and spares its better, no problems with that,

Thought you mean't it could do things that Siemens cannot.

The better PLC is obviously personal preference (Siemens for me), they are both good PLC's and both equally able in automotive applications.
