I just started working for a new company who is in the process of replacing Microstation with a solid modeling package. They've looked at SolidEdge & SolidWorks but price of course is causing hesitation. The equipment they would be modeling is primarily made of sheet metal & weldments with some small parts and assemblies. I have enough experience in Solid Edge & Solid Works to know what they would be getting. Any input on how Alibre would work for a predominately sheet metal and weldment company? The price certainly makes it worth looking into.

Depends on how complex of sheet metal design you are talking about.

Alibre does all the basic sheet metal working. It even takes care of some more of the complex features. What it doesn't do automatically, you can do manually to get the end result you desire. Same as both SWX and SE.

Basically, get the 30 day free trial and test it out.
