I am trying to get clarification regarding the sign convention in SAP, in particular for the moment diagram. My understanding is that SAP shows the moment diagram on the tension side of a beam. Also positive moment is when there is compression in the Axis 2 side of the beam.
In the attached document, the moment diagram for the horizontal simply supported beam is shown consistently below the beam on page 2 and page 4. Which makes sense to me.
For the vertical simply supported beam, it is shown on the left on page 7 (I agree with this). But I do not understand why it is shown on the bottom on page 9? The I-End, is the left of the beam (bottom). I would think the moment diagram should be above the axis, similar to that of page 7.
Appreciate if you can help me clarify this.
