Sand Grit Seperation System 1

Hi All,

I've been tasked with creating a system for seperating out the two different grit sands we use in our media blast booth. We currently use 36 grit and 80 grit, and we encounter issues when these two grits are allowed to mix. For example, we could have in our large gravity feed hopper 50/50 of the two grits and I'd like a way to filter these out so that the 36 grit could gravity feed back into the feeder tank for 36 grit and the 80 grit could be discarded after 1 use (per our spec). Is there off the shelf screens that I could buy that would seperate these two particle sizes effectively?

I'm thinking of a series of meshes. The first could be a 15 grit for collecting gross debris. The next would be a 30 grit for collecting the 36 grit. The rest would be assumed to be 80 grit and would then gravity feed into a waste tank. Also, what type of vibration and mesh angling would I need to apply to these meshes to ensure that the screens don't get clogged?

Separating the blast media precisely in an efficient and timely manner may not be quite so easy a task. You might be better off designing a system for your blast equipment that allows you to easily swap out the media used for a given job. This would not require you to separate the used media. If you use a series of progressively finer screens to separate the debris and then segregate the media you may find that the screens become obstructed too easily.

Just what amount of media is required by your blast equipment?
