SAFE not responding when running model imported from ETABS

Hi,

I am involved in a project with a 30-storey tall building. As there is a transfer plate in the building, I try to import the storey from ETABS to SAFE to analyze the thick plate. The problem I encounter is, every time I try to run analysis in SAFE, the program is not responding and shows "Creating Analysis Model: (40.0%) Elements - Task 7 of 15" in the status bar. No errors or warnings are reported either in ETABS or in SAFE. I just have no idea what's going wrong. Does anyone encounter this before or know about this?

Hello,

I am going thru the same step in my work, so have some arguments that may help you.

1 ETABS outputs only one storey data into the SAFE file, so it is not relevant how many storeys you have within the ETABS model.

2 In dependence on the number of loads and combinations you have exported to SAFE, that will be the volume of information to consider for the analysis.

3 From the personal experience: I have exported a 2000 square meters slab, and couldn't run on my laptop (2.o GHz dual Core processor and 3 Gb RAM) it just crashed every time I tried to run the model. Finally I could finalize the analysis on a hp Z400 Workstation, (2.66 quad Core cpu and 12Gb Ram) so for me it was a computer resources issue and still it took 15 minutes to run the analysis and design.

So I recommend to you to compare your computer, the size of your model and of course the versions of both softwares (in my case ETABS 2015 15.1 and SAFE 14.1.1)
