SAE Wiring Standard

Can anyone recommend which SAE standard would I use for wiring a device that goes onto a fire truck?
The company I work for designs and manufactures fire fighting equipment. We are designing a new product that will mount on a fire truck. I want to make sure that the wiring, conduit, enclosures, etc. are compatible with SAE standards. Since I'm new to auto/truck wiring, I would appreciate anyones opinion on this.

Restricting your search of specifications for "wiring" yields almost 2000 results (

http://www.sae.org/servlets/SiteSea...ayr=2003&bmo=10&bdy=7&byr=2003&submit=Search)

so you may wish to be more specific in your keywords!

There is also a forum specific to your SAE Specifications: SAE (Automotive) Code Issues Forum (forum14) but it is sparsely populated.
