I have a Porsche 944 that uses Rzeppa joints on both ends of the rear half-shafts. In doing a re-boot and re-grease on the CVs, I wondered what the phasing requirements between the two joints on a single shaft would be? As usual, the manuals only say to punch-mark the pieces at disassembly, but give no guidance as to phasing when a new CV is installed. This leads me to believe that phasing is not a concern in this installation. My only doubt is due to the design of these GKN joints, which is to use alternating angled grooves in the driver and cup (i.e., one groove angles to left, next angles to right), rather than the straight grooves as on a FWD outer joint. I presume this is to provide a "self-centering" action? But it could introduce some reuqirement for phasing.
Any thoughts?
