Roatary sounding~ 1

I want to know rotary sounding is applicable to the site where has 0/30 or 1/30(Very soft) of N value ~

I think rotary sounding is more applicable and can get more valuable and reasonable data if it is conducted onto firm soil or even rock~

But, the problem i am meet is client want to know it;s applicability at that very soft layer~

So i am asking u guys about that~
Wish there r good advice for me ^_^ (and also for my client~)

I assume the soft/very soft soil you speak of is silty/clay?
A better approach to assess the strength/properties of the soil would be to use a soil shear vane. They can be deployed down most hollow stem augers and washing boring drill rigs. It is important to remeber to advance the vane assembly well past the auger bit in order to avoid testing disturbed soils.

I have found that at SPT blow counts of 0 to 1 you will need to make an approximation of your soil shear strength. I think a vane test will give a more accurate answer.


Ideally, an electronic cone test would tell you the most about the subsurface soils but availabilty and costs can be a problem.
