Rifle Gun Fire Vibration 1

We are trying to vibration test a product that will be used on a few types of hand held guns. We are using MIL-STD-810 gunfire vibration as a guideline. We do not have the luxury of measuring field data for different types of hand held guns as specified in MIL-810. We were thinking of using Sine on Randon vibration, but were are having trouble defining the vibration levels. Does anybody have any experience on where to find data on hand held guns or how to estimate vibration levels on hand held guns?

GARDEL: It alsways amazes me that companies take on projects without the basic information. I would suggest that you run the necessary tests, Short of that howerver, you may want to contact one or more of the aresenls in the county. There is the Picatinney Arsnel in New Jersey and there is Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland.

Annex D of Method 519.5 in 810E has equations for calculating the levels and frequencies.

A GAU-8 with 393 gm projectile and 1022 m/s muzzle velocity has 205 kJ kinetic energy. Table 519.5D-III lists 307.5 kJ blast energy for same weapon.

I don’t think that gun fire is random vibration, but a pyrotechnic shock.
