I need to set up charts which "read" results to use as the X axis and automatically draw the axis to a linear scale, regardless of the values. (Quattro does it but I can't find a route in Excel)
I am attaching a spreadsheet as a sample. Similarly how can I reset the linear axis so that it becomes logarithmic?

Should be simple I know but the only way I can make it work is by manipulating formulae to create evenly spaced values in the results.

You have used a "line" chart. You need to change it to the "scatter (X/Y)" type. Right click on the chart, and select "change chart type".

To change either scale to logarithmic, right click just below the axis and select "format axis", then click the "logarithmic scale" box.

You will need to change the first chart point to something greater than zero.

The instructions above are for 2007/2010. The procedure may be slightly different for earlier versions.

That pretty much sums it up. Except in Excel 2000 and I think 2003, you can't change a chart type (by right-clicking) once it's created... you have to create a new chart of the new type.
