Remote I/O

Hey guys, I'm helping out in a study that's comparing Remote I/O to Fieldbus. The problem is that I don't know too much about Remote I/O.

Can anyone suggest a web site that I can go to where I can read up on Remote I/O? I'm just looking for a broad overview.

and destributed I/O system at plcdirect.com and MTL.com
From my Experiance the biggest different is at the price tag:
The detributed I/O system (with PLC and HMI)price is less then 1/3 of a DCS of the same size.
