What is standard protocol for evaluating whether an existing fire service to a building should be replaced? The building is undergoing a major expansion. The size of the existing line and the pressure/flow in the water main is adequate. The only question is whether the existing on-site fire service line should be replaced.

Can you take the line apart and look inside? Look for deposits that would impede flow to the bldg. Look at the age of the line. Look at the cost of replacing the line and the value of the improved bldg. Talk to the Fire Ins. carrier.(discount for replacing)
