I am writing an article regarding rainwater catchment used as domestic water supply. Does anyone have any hands on experience in matching the size of the cistern with projected rain supply?
The basic methodology is to get monthly rain data density / sf * sf of collection area = gallons of water. Sizing for the worst case gets pretty expensive. So what is a realistic safety factor to apply, assuming no alternative water supply? And what evaporation / leakage factor would be typical to assume?
Appreciate any thoughts you might have
