I'm presently going over PQR at a Chinese supplier in china. For the cutting of the tensile test specimen, they used multiple specimens to represent a 40mm test coupons. I noticed that the four specimens that were tested measured 26mmn, 25mm and the other tensile 23mm, 24mm. The two combined measurements surpasse the total thickness of the plate. They than told me that each specimen was taken at deferent locations on the test plate. But according to me Article 151.1 (c ) doesn't accept that multiple specimens be cut at different locations on the plate. (see ASME below):
(c) When multiple specimens are used, in lieu of full
thickness specimens, each set shall represent a single tension
test of the full plate thickness. Collectively, all of the
specimens required to represent the full thickness of the
weld at one location shall comprise a set.
According to me each set of two test specimens shall cut at the same location on the plate.(it is to say that the 40mm thickness should be cut in half and that would represent one of the two coupons).
I need help to make the supplier understand. Is there any information (besides ASME section 9 and the interpretation code) that will help me.
