where is "barred tee" used?

In a line which is to be pigged. The bars are placed across the branch connection to prevent the pig from accidentally trying to go down the branch instead of continuing on down the run.

See below as an example


The original ones were literally bars welled abroad the branch. Modern ones are much better and much more likely to still be there many years later.
