Hi,
I would like to know the range of qualification for single-V groove weld of steel plate thck. 5mm welded with GMAW in 1G when CVN test is required. From my experience welder in this position will perform one root layer, one hot and then two face layers.
Assuming that GMAW-S is 2mm and rest ie. 3mm with GMAW done most likely with spray. How shall I prepare CVN specimens, since is possible actually for GMAW only 3mm, root layer is to thinn to cut out CVN specimen. Or should I choose other coupon thickness? Then what will be the range available for WPS?
May I have somone opinion?
Thanks in advance.

Why would you deposit a 5mm weld in 4 passes? Seems like a lot of heat for relatively thin material.

Hi Ron,
it was really welded with 4 seams. Wire is 1,0mm and high travel speed. But my question is about GMAW short circuting in D15.1. I am not sure if it is separate proces like in D1.1. If not I assume that process will not make me testing separate layers with short circuit and separate with spray arc. May I have someone's opinion.
