Good evening,

I am looking to start forming some plexiglass for a home made project.

I have access to heating equipment, but as far as I have read, for optical clarity, the pattern must be covered in a felt and soaked in a water emulsifiable grease.

Does anyone know what felt to use, and what grease to try and obtain?

Any assistance would be great.

Thank you in advance.

In a previous life we prototyped polycarbonate automotive window sample products via a crude drape-thermoforming process. We set the PC sheet on an aluminum plate covered with a special fabric. After heating beyond glass transition temperature, we lifted the pliable sheet off the plate and set on the drape form, then applied vacuum to pull to form.

I know the fabric was not "felt" as in wool felt. It was some type of synthetic, but that's all I know. Maybe a phone call to a thermoformer or PC supplier would be your next step.

Hi Tygerdawg,

Thank you for your response above.

Over the last week, I have contacted everyone I can think of. However, it seems like a bit of a dark art, as to what materials are used!
