Gentlemen,
I have seen some engineers and electricians specially who are working in the IEC world, prefer to use plate electrodes than rod electrodes. Most of these copper plates are avaialble in 36"x36"xGauge 20 which is about 1.5 mm thick.I strongly feel that it will get deformed after sometime due to the weight of the soil.Appreciate member's views on pros & cons of plate vs rod electrodes. Also what is meant by "Axis of influence" of a plate electrode?

I wouldn't worry about a little possible deformation. If the plate is installed in such a way as to make deformation possible the contact with the soil will be greater after the event.
