We recently designed a turboexpander/compressor unit from GE Rotoflow. They used a NEMA SM23 multiplier of 3 for nozzle loads. I don't recall their required straight lengths, but we couldn't achieve them. I believe it was on the order of 10 diameters for the expander suction and 5 diameters for the discharge. Our inlet piping was 30" diameter with 48" discharge.
