PDMworks Workgroup Question 1

We are getting ready to implement PDMworks Workgroup at work. We us Jobboss to create travelers for the shop and Jobboss uses AutoVue to view and print attachments, we attach the drawings to the traveler in the system so that when someone prints a traveler the drawings also print.

Our problem with this is that Jobboss and AutoVue will not be able to access the vault to print the drawings.

I know that PDMworks will create a pdf in the vault upon checking in a drawing.

My questions is there a way to get it to create a pdf outside of the vault?

If not, is there a way to use Solidworks Scheduler to print to a pdf outside of the vault so that we cad attach the pdf to our travelers?

If so, is there a way to tell it to only print files that have been modified on a curtain day?

Brian,
Yes, you can. Right after you check a drawing into the vault, do a “save as” pdf to a directory on your network. This will reset Revisions and Versions onto local drawing. Make this part of your release process and everything will be good.

Matt,
Thanks for the vote of encouragement. I have been trying to get management here to do this for years. They always say we do not want to have two data base with the save information. One being the PDM vault and the other directory on the network. Good point.

Bradley,

Actually, I was thinking about this. You may not need to create two databases per se. If you are using PDMWorks API triggers, I believe you can make the PDF and copy it to a protected location in one step. It's still two databases, but one drives the other, so the second one always matches the source. I'm sure this can be set up and validated fairly quickly. Just an idea for your situation. The only cost will be in the initial set up, perhaps by a VB programmer with SW experience who can do the the work in a couple of days.

Matt,
Thanks for the idea, a very good one at that.
A star for you.

Brian,
I do not have time right now. Sorry
Although I am sure I need it also, if I could get management to agree first.
