PATRAn Group Command

Is there a way to place all of the facets from a single mesh into a group without using a bounding box to capture the individual facets? I have a complex model with multiple meshes and would like to place each separate mesh into its own group in the least painful way. %-)

There is a "Utilities" menu that allow you to group elements according to common properties, elements with no properties defined, boolean operations with other groups...

But, as far as I know, it is a "special" package of PATRAN (obviously, not free)

The 'Utilities' section is free, and all the elements are installed as part of the main installation of Patran.... However, the 'Utilities' menu has to be activated after installation by the user. Alot of the features are incredibly useful, but are not supported (as such) by MSC, which I think is the reason the menu of tools doesn;t appear by default.

Hi bb3rd,
You can do it with Utilities. Once you have installed the Utilities section (which is free, as GJS explained) please do the following steps:
1) List 2)Get Solid Elm Faces 3) Put a small tolerance and select close to geometry option 4) Select Surfaces or Solid Faces of your geometrical model (whatever you have as geometry) 5) It selects all of the Solid Elm Faces. I am agree with GJS, most of the features of Utilities are useful.
