good day...we are evaluating the replacement of an ASME certified vertical pressurized pond, which has a thickness loss of 50% of the lower shell. We are evaluating for issues of facilitating the repair (it has an exchanger inside) the possibility of changing plate to plate, but I understand that ASME in these cases only allows the complete replacement of the ring (circular sections of the shell previously welded) due to stress issues and alignment (homogeneous load distribution). Does anyone know which ASME section details the restrictions on this type of repair? I thank you in advance for any guidance.

ASME Code covers new equipment, not repairs to existing equipment. At any rate I've never seen any code (new construction or repairs) that placed restrictions against installing individual cylinder segments vs. a complete cylindrical section. Paragraphs UG-80 and UG-81 of ASME Section VIII Div. 1 cover maximum out-of-roundness tolerances for fabricated cylinders and paragraph UW-33 covers alignment tolerances.
