partfamily instance name to text feature

I'm on nx6 in this case - maybe soon in 8.5 ,
the problem we want to have the instance name of the partfamily member as text feature on the solid. How can I reference from the partfamily table to the text feature? any idea?

Creating the Part Family where there's an Attribute which will be set equal to the Part member's name is not a problem using NX 6.0. However, the ability to create geometric text as a feature on the model which will reflect the value of an Expression (which could be set equal to the Attribute), that was only possible starting with NX 7.5.

What I've done is create two sample part files, one using NX 6.0 and the other using NX 8.5, where the Part name is included in the Family member, the NX 6.0 version using just simple text and the NX 8.5 version having an actual geometric text feature on the model showing the part name. To see how this works, add the part to an Assembly, select the desired family member and you will get the component with the part name on it, either as simple text for the NX 6.0 version or actual geometric text for the NX 8.5 version.

Anyway, this should help you figure out how to approach this sort of thing.

I am using NX 7.5, so I was unable to load your NX 8.5 sample file. However, I am very interested in creating part families of a label which uses expressions to drive the text in a part family.

I have attempted this in the attached file, but get error messages when I try to generate the part files. Anyone have any suggestions for a fix?

OK, attached is an updated NX 7.5 version of what was previously the NX 6.0 version of the example file mentioned above, only now I've linked the Geometric Text to the part name and created a set of raised letters on the face of the block. Note that after creating a new Family Table member part, you will need to perform a...

Tools -> Update -> Update for External Change

...operation for the Geometric Text to properly update, something that you won't need to do with NX 8.5.
