This was posted in another Forum (Measurement & Control Software Engineering), but I thought I'd also ask here. This Forum seems to get more traffic. Please excuse the redundancy.

I want to install a PLC network to control some compressors. I will have one PLC/compressor, with the PLCs connected together thru "Ethernet/IP" (Allen-Bradley).
The problem is that I need to pass nearly ALL of the information contained in those PLCs to a DCS (Honeywell TPS). The DCS also talks "Ethernet", but it somehow operates differently.
Both vendors talk about "OPC compliancy" and I think they should be able to pass information to each other through this, but I really don't know how it works or what has to be done to make it work. Throwing $$$ at the problem will force it on someone else, but doesn't help me or my company.
Can anyone point me to a document or something that would explain IN SIMPLE TERMS what I need to do to achieve this communication? The authors, so far, seem to be too close to their subject, and lose me really fast. Some hand-holding would be nice.
