We have a new project in Oklahoma where we hired a local geotech to test the site and make recommendations. For pavement recommendations (rigid) I'm used to geotechs outlining subgrade treatment, pavement strength and thickness, along with RFT spacing and sizing.

Anyone familiar with geotechnical engineering out of OK? This guy told me that:

1. In Oklahoma they don't typically use steel reinforcement for PCC in parking lots
2. That geotechs there don't typically provide rft spacing and sizing for parking lot pavement.

Frankly it sounds fishy to me.

For geotechnical reports I have performed or seen in Florida and Georgia, reinforcement is not generally used in parking lots or general use aprons. However, this is highly dependent upon the use and almost all parking lots I've done have been asphalt. We would provide subgrade treatment and minimum pavement thickness if given expected traffic loadings.
Geotechs don't provide reinforcement spacing or sizing in my area. This is done by the civil or structural engineer.
Geotech work is very regional. What is common practice here may be very different elsewhere.
