Dear all,

I need to calculate Inertia data and I would like to have geometric parametric associative expressions of it (Moment of Inertia, Product of Inertia, Second Moment of Inertia, etc) in order to create geometric optimization processes in NX.

The only parametric result that seems to exist is the Radius of Gyration for solid bodies. All the other Inertial parameters seems not available for parametric use. This means that we can have all the Inertial data but only from information lists (not parametric).

After searching over Eng-Tips and at the Internet I did not found any solution for a parametric/associative Inertia data analysis with NX.

The closest information is at this thread: thread561-253382 and the thread thread561-254126 redirects to the previous one, where is said that a macro could create an updated inertia data labels for draftings.

I have already created a simple macro for calculating a section 2ndMOI but this is not an automatic associativity for every time the geometry changes (and the object needs to be always in the graphics window, even with an assigned name...). Also is not useful for optimization studies where I need the inertia expressions/values to change and calculate/find relevant design features (thicknesses, areas, lengths, etc).

For example:
How I could find an equivalent complex geometry section with the same second moment of inertia of other complex geometry section?
The process should be something like this:
1 - Calculate and extract expressions from the 2nd MOI for the 1st section.
2 - Create the 2nd section with expressions that will change/update (manually or throughout an optimization process.) in order that the 2ndMOI is equal to the 1st section 2ndMOI.

Therefore, there are any ways to create parametric inertia expressions in NX?

I would be very grateful if some one could help me.

Thank you all for your time,
RP
