Does anyone have recommendations for non software specific FEA training?

if you mean books. This is a good one.
concepts and applications of finite element analysis by cook
if u do not mean books taking a college FEA course will be helpful.

If you mean courses, in the UK start with NAFEMS and probably in other countries too.

HBAREA: Any college level course on FEA will probably be okay. There are two books that I like for an introduction to fea. One is "FINITE ELEMENTS" by Gallagher. The other is "FINITE ELEMENT MODELLING" by Spyrakos. Spyrakos is a good basic book, Gallagher is the next level. If you are going to use fea software, I suggest you take the developer's course first, then the theory course.

Some of the Abaqus courses can be quite generic (especially the earlier parts). DAMT also give general training.

Thank you all for you feedback so far. I meant courses, no books.

MToft: What is DAMT?
