I hope this is the right place to have posted this.

Anyway, the company I work for does not have any sort of AutoCAD or 3-D modeling license. The primary usage for this would be to effectively recreate a very expansive room of servers to both have a three dimensional model to use at presentations and to have an effective method to keep track of which client each server belongs to.

I have training in SolidWorks, which I hear is very similar to Inventor.

Thank you in advance.

Sorry for the double post, just wanted to clear some things up.

Firstly, I meant CAD instead of AutoCAD. Don't know how that one slipped up.

Basically asking if you feel that SolidWorks is appropriate for this task, or if you know of something better suited for it.

Any Inventor/Solidworks/Pro-E program will work just fine.
Since you have training in SW just get that. Heck even google sketchup might work just fine for your needs.

Thanks for the help. That's exactly what I was thinking, just wanted to get second (and third) opinions on it.

Sketchup is very cheap and might just do what you need. Free test copy at Google. Unless you want an extreme amount of detail.
