Need a Simple Setup

Well its simple to you lot and not me lol. I have a motor with a nominal output of 65rpm, i need to by either using a timing belt or bevel gears attach it to a rotating wheel. The Large wheel has to rotate at 60 rpm. By the way its a Pottery wheel.

If you only need to change the RPM of the pottery wheel by 5 RPM, why bother? Use the same diameter sheaves on both motor and wheel. Or you can calculate the diameter of the motor sheave by taking the ratio (pottery wheel rpm/motor rpm)*pottery wheel sheave diameter.

I would recommend that you use a fairly slack v-belt for your drive, instead of the gears or timing belt, so that if something (like your hand) gets caught in the clay the belt will slip instead of your arm breaking.

Like the first advice, this seems to
be an easy solution. If you do need
the reduction, you can use two pulleys
have the first one 3.25 inch diameter
and the second 3.50 or use pulleys
twice this size. Bacically the second
pulley should be 1.083 times the first
to get the 65 to 60 ratio. The first
pulley would go on the motor.
