I am trying to show a customer what happens to a distributed grid when a remote power source has a transient. I understand IEEE 1547 requirements for flicker, et al but would like to be able to provide a reasonably accurate analysis of what happens when a 10MW power source drops offline or worse on a 140MW distribution grid.

I'm not necessarily looking for high fidelity but am looking for a realistic representation. If anyone knows of a paper that discusses this, etc. that would probably work as well

If you're trying to show true transient (i.e., waveform) analysis, you'd need a program like EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, PSS/E, SimPowerSystems Toolbox for Simulink, or other equivalent. If you just want to show what happens to load flow, a program like PowerWorld, ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower might suffice.
