I am trying to compare the performance of turbo-boosted (TB) vs. naturally aspirated (NA) air compressors. I am working on an engine upgrade on a piece of construction equipment which currently has a TB air compressor used to operate system brakes as well as additional auxiliary functions. Unfortunately the engines from which I have to choose do not offer a TB air compressor option. I can, however, get either engine outfitted with a NA air compressor.
What are the differences? What sacrifices, if any, will I be making by going to a NA air compressor? Is there any way to compensate for performance deficiencies of a NA air compressor (e.g. choosing a larger displacement compressor, etc...)?
Are there any good resources, online or text, which may best explain the differences?
