Can someone advise me the risk/benefits of parallel battery strings.

The requirement is 120V/800AH but we try to standardize on Liberty 1000 series batteries. At one location, the vendor installed a parallel string consisting of two(2)X 40 cell LS3-400 (3vpc)in parallel.

The second location consists of 4 cells in parallel with another 4 cells seriesed in 10 segments.

I am not familiar with the benefits of the second scenario. Parallel strings are not desirable but the open state failure mode of VRLA batteries has unacceptable consequences.

Hi Kasane,

what is your application?
Traction or stationary (UPS)?
The problem with parallel strings is that single cell-voltages could drift apart.
Depending on your application you should check the single cell-voltages regularly.
