Dear mates,

Does any structural code provide any guidance on the minimum distance between groove / full-pen welds? I did not find anything in AWS, AISC.

Any input will be appreciated.

I think PJP and CJP are used on elements that need to develop full strength across the entire contact plane, if the full strength is not required (so to break the weld line), then you shall chose other type of weld.

I can't think of anything.....but me personally, I've always tried to keep a good 8" from one line to another.
