I would like to connect a Micrologix 1400 PLC to a Yaskawa V1000 via Ethernet/IP and control the VFD from the PLC. Has anyone out there done this? Would you be willing to share and example of how to setup and establish communications? Please - I know it will involve messaging, but am not sure on how all the settings work, etc. Please?

Thanks in advance...

I have done this with ABB and Rockwell Drives, but not Yaskawa. But I assume it is the same. You will need a mapping of the ethernet module on the Yaskawa. Then you can set up messaging files to and from the 1400.

But, having done this a few times, I would say you are better off using modbus. The only reason you need the drive on the enet is if you want to access the drive remotely. Anything you need in the drive you can read through the PLC (via modbus). Modbus comms are easier, cheaper, and as reliable.

eeprom: Don't I need a special module, for instance from Prosoft, to communicate via Modbus, or is there an easier way to communicate? Thanks for you help!
