I am currently looking for a 5 axis CAM system. The absolute minimum requirements are:
1.) The ability to perform rotary milling using flat bottom cutters offset from center to avoid work being pushed into the bottom of the cutter. Our work is too large to consider using ball nose for roughing.
2.) The ability to work from solid Models. We are currently designing in SolidWorks.
We are currently working with a CAM system that is 90% there, but not quite. We are working with the VAR and the mother company to address the few remaining issues, but if we come upon a brick wall, I need to be ready to change directions.
