We are applying labor standards so that product is first grouped into families and those items with the highest volume (Pareto Group) are measured. This work measurement is then applied to all items within the family. Perhaps this is an over simplification.

Has anyone attempted this way of assigning labor standards?

Also,

Has anyone encountered machine interference, if so, how did you apply this allowance?

This is a good first step. We do the same process but then we try and determine the fastest and slowest times in order to determine if a sub-category is needed. Sometimes the family is sufficient, some times we may have up to 5 sub-categories. These sub-categories we call attributes.
