This may be a dud thread, but I'm wondering if anyone's using the new 2000 IBC for design/construction. In the world of testing and inspection, we're still seeing mostly '97 UBC, but I know the transition is coming. I just wanted to know if there were any problems/issues with the new code. That's it!
Best of luck in the new year. [yinyang]

dirtsqueezer,

Aside from wind load requirements (based on ASCE 7-98) and soil classification for seismic design, I don't see much difference in the two codes. In addition, I think the 2000 IBC is largely based on the 97 UBC.

The 2003 IBC comes with the CD "Seismic Design Parameters", put out by the USGS (developed by E.V. Leyendecker), where you can input a zip code and get soil classification as well as very useful seismic information. I think the changes in the codes are for the better, as long as we make an effort to understand code changes as they are made.

Prior to 1994 the UBC was a simple one volume book. Codes have changed a lot since then, and I expect they will continue to evolve, and maybe become more complex especially in the seismic engineering area.
