Is it possible to assign the Steel Design Values to my Members in the Modeling Mode. Let me elaborate. When I first start modeling my structure, I obviously do not know what member sizes are required, and it is not important to know in most cases. I assign a member size that I think is reasonable in my Modeling model. For instance, I assigned a value of W6x15 for Member 121. So my member size in odeling Mode is W6x15. However, when I ran STAAD with the SELECT ALL command, STAAD assigned a value of W8x10 to Member 1. So my Steel Design Value in Postprocessing mode is W8x10. I am happy with the value of W8x10 and will use that in my design, say. Now, my question is: Is it possible to permanently assign the value of W8x10 to Member 1, so that it will have a value of W8x10 (instead of W6x15) in the modeling model.
The reason I am asking this question, is I want to assign all the Steel Design values to my model in the Modeling model. Then, I want to remove some members, say members 2 and 3 and see if my model is still adequate. That is, if my model will still work without members 2 and 3, and yet not to have to change any of the existing members that were provided by Steel Design, and not to have any of the remaining members fail? I believe this is possible in other program, say RAM Advanse, but I am not so familiar with this particular feature in STAAD.
