IR or Dial Thermometer for AC inspection ?

This may be a rather simple post to answer. My group, ( A solid waste management agency ) rarely installs roads, but we are planning on installing some in the future. From all appearances a IR "gun" thermometer should work just as well as a bi-metal dial thermometer when checking to make sure the AC comes in at the right temperature. Is this correct?

Sure, the only caveat is to do some level of correlation testing between the two types of thermometers so that emissivity changes during the installation are accounted for.

Agree with IRstuff....correlate between them. You state DOT or county requirements might prescribe a temperature measurement technique, so check into that.
