This double wall tank storages H2SO4 and is made of HDXLPE (crosslinked HDPE). Wall thickness calcs were done according to ASTM D 1998.

Is there a standard similar to API 653 for non-metal tanks? intention is to assign inspection interval and use some kind of "inspection checklist" similar to API 653 Annex C.

Thanks,

What code was this tank manufactured to? Many vessels of this type are covered under UL specifications.

I asked same question and was told that tank wall thickness were calculated according to ASTM D 1998.

ASTM D-1998 only governs the manufacture. I would base my inspections off of the service code requirements. If you are using it in severe service I would recommend a baseline UT thickness scan with an annual inservice verification. This would give you a safe basis to calculate any wear or errosion due to service.

And use the results of each inspection to shorten or extend the Inspx interval. Set up your Inspx program similar to either API-510 or -653, and document everything.

I would take the -653 checklist and delete everything that does not apply, and call it my "HDXLPE H2SO4 Program" checklist. Some kind of Internal Inspx should be included.
