I am to get to play with Ricardo's Wave program a few days in the next couple of weeks. Any words of wisdom? Would anyone have input files for SBC engines that could be shared? I am assuming that each component will need an input file to model it, ie. cams, head ports, intake runners, intake plenum, exhaust manifold, etc. Thanks for any help.

What's an SBC engine? Is it not covered by the examples shipped? There are often pleas for FSAE-compatible engines here, on the FSAE forums and other places, but SBC is a new TLA to me.
 
Applications: One 383 and one 350. Both personal vehicles. The 383 has casit iron heads, dual plane intake and carby. The 350 has AL heads, and TPI. I was hoping to model to match the dyno results and then predict the results of diferent upgrades.
 
Most WAVE models are of contemporary and/or future engines, so a validated model of a "SBC" is unlikely. Unless you work for a NASCAR (or equivalent) team that has WAVE. But then those models are unlikely to be "normal". Get measuring. I assume this is a homer using a work licence out of hours?

I've got some dyno data for an old LT1 engine (including motored friction) which unfortunataley i'm not at liberty to share. I may have some flow data-which I'm not sure about.
I'm currently building a library of 1 D cycle simulation models, I have a 993 Porsche 285 Bhp model which IS validated and I'm building a BMW E36 M3 3 litre and E46 'S54' 3.250 l M3 engine model- which I have all the data for. The biggest problems is getting the engine geometry data for me for the latest M3.
I have Good correlated Jaguar engine models.
The Vette engine is on my 'to do' list but the thing I lack most is the engine intake and exahust geometry and cam profiles. One day may be, but at the moment I'm far too busy.
Engine friction data, Volumetric Efficiency (preferably reference to ambient), and measured brake torque are a must. Intake and exhaust flow data and measured cam profile data is also needed with possible assumptions made about lash. You also NEED to know the exhaust backprerssure at a fixed reference point in the exhaqust system and the losses across the inlet air box. What is nice would be high pressure trace tappings in the intake and exhaust runners and may be even in cylinder IMEP cylinder pressure traces.

Whew! The programs seed files are sounding better all the time. I have limited dyno output that may help. I can measure some items. The intake seems fairly uniform in cross section and length but the head ports are obviouusly a different story. I assumed I would have to measure the cam and downstream exhaust pressure. Thanks for the help. I will let you know if any of the generated data appears useful.
 
Yes, you will need to measure the cam profile INCLUDING ramps and make an assumption for DYNAMIC lash.
You'll also need back pressure- best would be measured at various points throughout the system. Intake manifold losses or depression is possibly more important as it numerically has a larger effect on performance/VE.

SomptingGuy, I think that is what they call files that are with the program to get you started. Sample files might be a better name for them. My understanding is that the program will come with some small block Ford files.
