Looking over existing hybrid designs, I fail to see why cars like the Prius use 2 motors when an inductive coupling could accomplish the same result (by my wild assed off-the-cuff calculation/assumtions) with fewer parts.
Neodymium magnets offer sufficient field density and ultracapacitors such as Maxwell's design offer compatible capacity and charging time.
Forgive me if this isn't an appropriate venue for this speculation, I'm a third year Mechanical major and am simply happy to have professionals available to sound off to.
