Import 3d Autocad to Abaqus

Hello people,

I am sorry if this thread shown up again in the forum, is my first attempt to start a thread here.
Since I am pretty amateur in using the Abaqus software I have a serious issue importing a 3d file in abaqus.
What is the proper procedure of doing it? By importing as dxf and sketch options in Abaqus is not working so I guess the only way is to import by parts, saving the 3d model as i.e. a .sat file. The frame is attached, is a simple steel frame.

Would be great if I receive some help. Thanks in advance!

Wenn it is a 3D object, then it won't work with .dxf. This is only for sketches.
Export .sat or .stp/.step and import that into Abaqus/CAE.

Yes you are right. You WILL get serous errors when importing 3D files from AutoCAD to Abaqus, unless
you are an expert in AutoCAD, .sat and Abaqus, which is well nigh imposssible for most of us.

I do the following things to overcome these difficulties,

1. Prepare complex dwgs save as dxf and then import these as sketches in abaqus. Then use the Abaqus methods to generate parts, assemblies etc.
If I need to generate a complex part, I generate simple parts firsts, assemble them, convert to the part I deesire and delete the simple parts.
2. Import complex 3D .sat files only as reference and build sketches or parts in anbaqus using these imported .sats . So the imported .sats files are source of geometry only and nothing else.
