Ignition advance

Motorcycle with digital ignition. I am looking for a way to monitor the ignition advance while riding via a small display. I don't have any internal schematics for the box but it has crank position, MAP and throttle position inputs. Can anybody point me in the right direction. Also, there is no way to use a timing gun while riding. ha. ha. Thanks.

I am curious as to what such a device would accomplish absent some adjustability (giving the ability to adjust 'on the fly'). Simply mapping the ign adv curve and then taking a peek at the tach from time to time and "recording" the figures to memory would seem expediant.

Ride safe and do your "testing" on the chassis dyno. It's cheaper than a trip to the "E" room, or worse!

PS---If your just into 'bells and whistles' the 'add ons' are available from Moroso and others. Timing, mixture strength, temp., etc. The bike mags are full of 'devices' to add on.

I have the ignition curves from the aftermarket ign. module I am testing, but I don't believe they are accurate. I am most familiar with different ignition tests but, in this case, I like the real time remote readout. I'll have to do a little studying and probably end up making one for my specifics.

Do a static test Gene. You don't need to ride the bike to map the ign curve.---Listen (soap box time) I've been on bikes a while (1949 to 1988) and I've done a couple of 'dumb' stunts but not after I saw the young man crash while trying to adjust his carb at speed on the road.

Waaay more than $.02 worth to be sure.Something else to keep in mind---

Yes, you are correct. It can be dangerous. I am with you on safety. As you know from your experience riding a m/c requires a lot more attention than driving a car. I wouldn't be mapping the curve in detail, just checking certain conditions. If I can't do safely than I'll do it in the garage. Thanks for the concern.
