I need to add some tapped holes to the hole wizard that are presently there, like a 1-5/16-12 tap for a Swagelok.
How do I go about this?

Thanks CBL,

Exactly what I was looking for. Funny this FAQ didn't show up whren I searched on the term "hole wizard".

Well, I tried to create a new data base to include my special taps, but it didn't work correctly. I followed the FAQ and added a tap size to the new standards database that I created based on the ansinch standard. When I subsequently tried to use the new hole I got an error saying the data base had the incorrect hole depth. The newly created database had no columns for any kind of depth, only the thread data. I then deleted the new data base and recreated a new one with a different name. This time I picked a tap size close to my special and modified the entry instead of adding a new line. I figured it would use the depths of the thread I modified. No dice, this time it said it simply couldn't read the database. Is there a bug in this feature? I'm still on SW2005 SP5.0.

No theres no bug. We do this very often....
There are two tabs under "your new standard/Hole Wizard Holes/Tapped Holes". One is "Bottoming Tapped Hole" and the other is "Tapped Hole" I always ensure I put the data in both. Never had a problem..

If you still have further issues, I could outline step by step how we have done it, I you'd like.

btcoutermash,

Thanks for the reply. I went back and made sure that I filled out both the bottoming and regular tapped holes and that seems to have worked except the hole callout in a drawing only calls out the tapped hole diameter, no thread data. Am I still missing something?

Yes, there is one more thing. You need to find the file "calloutformat.txt" on your machine. Make a copy of it in another directory incase you need to revert back to it. Open up the one you found from searching in notepad.Path should be something like: C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english

When opened, along the left you will see the callout information for the holewizard standards: "[ANSI INCH]"
You need to copy all the information from the standard you derived your new standard in holewizard from, then reinsert the copied text at the end of this file. Rename the text you just placed to the name you originaly choose for your holewizard copied standard. IE; "[copied standard]"
Then just click save. Restart SW.

This should take care of your callout issue..

btcoutermash,

Thanks! A star for you.
